All Things Considered

Hello, my dear Reader,

I am writing to announce the “All Things Considered” Virtual exhibition, from Las Laguna Art Gallery, in California. The show runs from April 4, 2024 through April 30, 2024. I have a small sculpture in the show, made from beer cans and duct tape. It is a redneck ode to love, a badge of courage, medal of honor…or marker of failure? Of trying in drunken futility?

Follow the link in bold text, below, to get to the Gallery’s Exhibition page. You can also search for my name in the Gallery’s search bar to see the piece.

May you all be brave in love.

Perhaps we will see each other there.

59th Annual Spring Art Show

Dear Reader,

If your time allows, stop by the Heyde Center for the Arts, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to view the big Spring Art show. There is a beautiful variety of work to see. I have two small sculptures in the show. The exhibition runs from April 16 through April 28th, 2023.

Flowers for the Deceased

Dear Reader,

We find ourselves in the Fall, once again. The studio is prepared for the cold months ahead, with all fragile materials moved back to the basement, to prevent freezing. The basement will once again be my workshop for the winter, so that I can have more heat.

The new body of work continues, for the deceased. The bright wall of 56 paintings is almost complete, with only framing and wiring to finish up. The large sculpture awaits more tiny white flowers, to install in her feet. Black leather flowers are also in progress, for the next piece.

Stay well. Stay reading. Updates are slowly, yet most surely, to come.

National Read Across America Day 2022

Dear Reader. I hope that you are reading today!

Tidbits from literature and music inform my work and feed my mind, and so I am sharing my current reads with you, on this celebration of reading day. When I choose books to read, I often try to find ones in which our human duality might be spoken of, demonstrated or described in its loving gentleness and savage cruelty or weakness. Some of my favorite stories are from Flannery O’Connor and Raymond Carver. Neruda, Murakami and George Saunders are on my shelves as well. I own both a hardcover and a paperback version of my all time favorite children’s book “Madeline and the Gypsies”. The paperback hangs from a heavy clip in my studio. I used to sleep with it when I was sick, as a child and even as a young adult, as if it’s magic could make me feel better. I borrow books, buy books, covet books, organize books, pile books, take books to the bath and have books in every room of the house.

The photos shown are a current read/lucky Goodwill find, my next read-newly purchased, and my soon to read pile. Concurrently, I am listening to an audio-book from the public library with the library app Libby “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens.

Please, share your love and your books with each other. May it all bring us closer together.

of mice and migration

Hello My Winter Reader,

I hope this finds you warm and well.

The move to the basement for the winter season has been cozy and productive! It has saved my sculpture, in its earlier paper mache form, from the mice that occasionally find their way into my little studio. She now has a several coats of plaster and the rest of the installation (Die/Dry Trying) is also in progress. I have stopped blowing the garage breakers with my studio space heaters as well. Maybe we can run more power out there next year…but for now…have a peek…

Finding a Home for Her

Hello My Dear Reader,

I have been busy in my studio and my garden this summer, both bringing much joy (joy…and beans, SO many beans!) into my private life. I would like to share sneak peeks with you tonight, as I say goodbye to this year’s summer and fall, in my heart. I welcome the hibernation season and the quiet dark nights that it brings for projects and contemplation. Cuddling and slippers are nice too.

I hope that you will stop by once in awhile to see where the new work will reside, once completed. It is a long crawl toward AC-19 (After Covid 19), but venues are opening and work is being shown again. I am working on securing exhibitions for the 2022 and 2023 gallery seasons. Please, stay tuned!

As always, sending Love.

The very newness of YOU

Dear Reader,

I do so miss you.

Amid the loneliness of the continued Covid related isolation, confusion, extended pandemic rules and restrictions, the “little things” have brought happiness. There were bouquets of flowers, cases of home-made wine, wood fired pizzas, fresh laundry, shelves full of free treats at my new workplace, bonfires, ice skating, long walks, new songs, luxurious soft pastels, wax carvings and the simple joy of making drawings.

Nothing, however, could compare to my one BIG THING. I normally do not share such personal details, but Dear Reader, I want to tell you that I was married last spring, in a small, backyard, June 2020 wedding. We placed the 9 guest chairs and ceremonial arch right outside of my beloved little studio. Craig and I served a home cooked meal to accompany my home made wine, on a table for 30, that we built in our shed. I bought second hand, assorted china and silverware, for the sit down meal. We had backyard and table games, music from our phones played through Bluetooth speakers and a “Hot Rod” garage for people to mix their own drinks.

Please, forgive my desires. Forgive my heartfelt impulse to overshare and the confusion I may have caused you with my old fashioned name change to go with the nuptials.

Perhaps we can get to know one another again.

In love,
